Madder Jaal: Dabu Hand-Block Printed Cotton Saree
A dense, jewel-like pattern of four-petal flowers in deep madder maroon on soft cream. The repeating lattice is called a jaal, and it gives the saree a classic look. A broad black border frames the body. The pallu has fine red and black stripes that add contrast and movement when you drape it.
This saree is made in Bagru, Rajasthan, with Dabu mud-resist and hand-block printing. Artisans press carved wooden blocks onto the cloth one repeat at a time, apply a mud paste to resist the dye, and colour it with natural dye. The fine crackle in the cream areas comes from the mud resist and shows the cloth was hand printed.
